Zero Use of Regulated Chemicals

We at Omron Healthcare are working to use no regulated chemicals, in order to curb the substances' negative effect on the environment. As the RoHS directive* took effect in EU on July 1, 2006, use of 6 chemicals in EU-marketed electrical/electronic equipment is now prohibited; lead (Pb), mercury (Hg), cadmium (Cd), hexavalent chromium (Cr+6), polybrominated biphenyl (PBB), and polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) flame retardants. While medical equipment is not among the RoHS target categories, we, swiftly responding to the global green awareness, are proactively working to no longer use the RoHS-listed chemicals into our products; not only in-house manufactured products but also purchasing parts and materials as a part of green procurement** promotion.

* EU RoHS directive: the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment, which aims to minimize the negative effect of hazardous substances on the environment and human health.

** Green procurement: to procure environment-friendly raw materials, parts and finished products that are free of regulated chemicals, made of recycled materi als, and/or are energy/resource-saving.
